shallowness taken to a new level

the worst thing is that it'll be successful. I thought about posting my photo there, but then you think: what kind of people am I going to meet there? what happens with that kind of people and their "friendship" towards you when you stop being so attractive for whatever reason? which extremes (lying anyone?) will people go to be part of these "exclusive clubs"? And most importantly...is this the beginning of the "Alpha social class" concept in the making? If the young, pretty and successful are able to further isolate themselves from society, living in their own great world...is this good for them in the long term? Is it good for society? "Free is good"

The thing missing is the BENEFIT. And with this I do not mean benefits for operators, platform providers or the advertisers – it’s the consumers that get nearly nothing out of mobile advertising. Commercial television has been the dominant form of broadcasting. FREE. Netscape introduced FREE internet browsing. Hotmail was the FREE email, Google organized the internet for FREE and enabled simple, spontaneous access to information. Napster created FREE peer-to-peer file sharing. Skype launched FREE internet phone calls… revolutionizing the perception of international phone calls and was the fastest application adoption in the history. Simply put…FREE is GOOD. And I believe that free is also the future of mobile communications, especially for young consumers.
There is one topic that makes the industry discuss: how much advertising can consumers TOLERATE? If you look what mobile industry currently is offering to them – the answer is easy: NONE. There is no BENEFIT for them.

If consumers get a real BENEFIT and receive ads that are relevant and entertaining for them, two things will happen: Free is good and best of all – ads are good.

The adults of tomorrow?!

Accustomed to spend, but not trained on how to make the right financial choices. (some) Studying to do jobs that are fast dissapearing. Destined to compete -in some industries- with workers in the other side of the world that are paid 100 dollars/month.
Unprepared for defeat and with unreal expectations.

American teens believe, based on the career that interests them the most, that when they get older they will be earning an average annual salary of $145,500. Interestingly, boys expect to earn an average $173,000 a year and girls $114,200, according to the findings of Teens & Money, an annual survey released last month by Charles Schwab & Co. and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.

I am not saying that all young people will end up like this. I am just saying that in the the coming 20 years we are going to see this generation becoming independent adults and they'll have to fend by themselves. In a world where there seems to be no room for real finacial success but for a few, in a society that feels "they deserve to have it", how will it all work out? What will be the impact on society of this young generation realizing that the dream sold to them by their parents ("you're special"), the media and school was just a lie? How till they feel when they learn that they will never be the next Britney Spears? Will a generation raised in the believe that the others don't matter be able to learn to work in teams with them? To do exactly what anyway?

New video service won't hurt youTube

At least, not if they launch their video services as they plan to do it today...
(my comment left somewhere else below)

"...professionally produced video delivered on the sites where they live”He forgot to say "with even more ads than youTube
"Is this a plot by media companies to overthrow YouTube?"Well, this is at least what youTube should argue if the worse come to the worse, and they have enough coverage and credibility to make a lot of fuss about it if they choose to. This is what Richard Branson did with Virgin Airlines against British Airways and worked pretty well.
However, I think that if these companies don't negotiate, they don't stand a chance of winning in the medium term by suing anyway. Even if they won, the payout would be the last thing they would get. They'd better of stricking a deal, because Google "gets it" and they still don't.
"however it won’t have a component for uploading home-made videos. "A very important component of the online video revolution will be ignored?! See what I mean about they not getting it?
What these companies don't realize is that youTube is more than a platform. They were able -at least before Google bought it- to create an "experience"This old mentality companies don't realize that the number one content producer of these websites...
1) Is used to get things for free and will push strong to keep them that way
2) hates conventional ads and publicity in any way
3) hates rich multinational companies, or any company perceived as such, and will do all it can to sabotage their money-making efforts4) is or knows someone who can work ways around technology to keep on getting things for free. Piracy is rampant (much more out of the US) and they have no real way to stop it.
LIke record companies, as long as they keep on trying to feed people content the way they did before, they won't succeed.
The new generations are dumber for many things, but very cynical for others. They know technology. They know media. They don't believe advertising. It won't work.

Javier

Why they should hire you, instead of that recent graduate...

During my job search, once I came across this article. I immediately saw the potential to turn it down, and use it in my job interviews, to give interviewers the reasons why my application was better than theirs. (remember> there are no objective realities when dealing with humans, but what we perceive as reality, at any given moment. If we can make others see reality the way we see it, we are in!) The article will also help you to feel better if you ever feel demotivated fighting for jobs with the young guys...
